Waterloo holds on for 2-1 win against ElmiraDan Snyder Memorial Sun, Nov 03, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Waterloo Siskins survived a determined comeback attempt by the Elmira Sugar Kings on the way to a 2-1 win. Waterloo took a 2-0 lead during the second period, only to have Elmira storm back on a Zac Coulter goal 6:32 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Siskins were led by goalie Leo Lazarev, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. Lazarev managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.88 prior to the game. Waterloo was led by Andrew Brubacher, who finished with one goal. Brubacher scored 19:49 into the second period to make the score Waterloo. Danny Hanlon assisted on the tally. The Siskins made Sugar Kings' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 31 shots and forcing 29 saves. Hayden Neuman made 17 stops and Jonathan Reinhart made 12. Waterloo also got a goal from Evan Kearns as well. More assists for Waterloo came via Troy Lajeunesse, who had one. The Sugar Kings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Waterloo to score on any of its six power plays. Elmira did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Sugar Kings put an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game. In addition, Elmira received assists from David Savery and Brad Kobryn, who each chipped in one. The Siskins incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Elmira incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Sugar Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Harding was ejected from the game.
