Sarnia uses shootout to best Lambton Shores, 5-4 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Sarnia Legionnaires defeated the Lambton Shores Predators in a shootout 5-4 (3-2 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Lambton Shores got shootout goals from Brendan Trottier and Jay Ritchie. Sarnia's other shootout goals were scored by Josh Kestner and Cody Trowell.

The Legionnaires overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Sarnia fell behind 4-1 after a goal by the Predators' Ritchie at 1:16 in the third period. The Legionnaires tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Jay Clarke at 19:21 in the third period.

Kestner had two goals to lead Sarnia to victory. Kestner scored on the power play at 8:11 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Sarnia and again while 3:28 into the third to make the score 4-2 Lambton Shores.

The Legionnaires' offense rang up 37 shots on Lambton Shores' net.

Sarnia also got points from Clarke, who also registered one goal and one assist and Nathan Mater, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Hayden Allen, who had one and Riley Babkirk, who had two.

The Predators kept Sarnia's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jake Danson made 28 saves on 32 shots.

Lambton Shores was helped by Steven Beenackers, who finished with one goal. Beenackers scored 5:35 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lambton Shores. Nick Sproveiro picked up the assist. Lambton Shores additionally got points from Ritchie, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Lambton Shores also got a goal from Austin Fetterly as well. More assists for Lambton Shores came via Ty Jackson, Kyler Keating, Ryan Trottier, Matthew Kenney, and Trottier, who each chipped in one.

The Legionnaires incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Justin Fazio recorded 32 saves for the Predators. Lambton Shores incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
