Fort Erie survives Port Colborne comeback, wins 6-5

The Port Colborne Pirates tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Fort Erie Meteors held on for a 6-5 victory.

Fort Erie took a 6-4 lead during the third period, only to have Port Colborne storm back on a Mack Steele goal 19:32 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

With three goals and four assists between them, Jesse Pereira and Carson Johnstone teamed up to power the Meteors' offense. Pereira grabbed one goal and three assists and Johnstone also notched two goals and one assist.

Fort Erie kept the Pirates' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mitchell Knight made 28 saves on 34 shots. The Meteors outdid their season average for goals scored. Fort Erie averages 3.2 goals per game.

Fort Erie additionally got points from Nik Passero, who also registered one goal and two assists and Johnstone, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Fort Erie also got a goal from Jack Webb as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fort Erie were Sam Quaranta, who had three and Paolo Sivilotti and Braden Kavaratzis, who contributed one a piece.

Port Colborne struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 27 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

The Pirates were helped by Brock Ackerman, who had two goals. Ackerman scored the first of his two goals at 15:43 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Charlie Izaguirre provided the assist. Ackerman's next tally made the score 3-2 Fort Erie with 15:14 left in the second period. Port Colborne had gained a power play chance when Mike Boles was whistled for interference. James Mewse-Detrich assisted on the tally. Port Colborne also got points from Steele, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Izaguirre, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Dayne Johnson also scored for Port Colborne. More assists for Port Colborne came via Jordon Boyko, Ryall Ledyard, and Dakota Kingston, who each chipped in one.

Josh Rosettani recorded 25 saves for the Meteors. Fort Erie incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Pirates registered one goal on two power play opportunities. For Port Colborne, Jordan Bolibruck was ejected from the game.
