Thorold blows out Buffalo, 4-1

The Thorold Blackhawks were firing on all cylinders against the Buffalo Regals, and when the final buzzer sounded Blackhawks emerged with a 4-1 win.

 

Thorold's Ian Shorthouse was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 36 saves and let only one puck past him. Shorthouse certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.65 entering the contest.

Buffalo's power play was ineffective against the Blackhawks' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Thorold forced the Regals goalie Adam Dentico to work between the pipes, taking 64 shots.

The Blackhawks were helped by Nick Sacco, who tallied one goal. Sacco scored 4:20 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Thorold. Stephen Jablonski assisted on the tally. Thorold additionally got points from Matt Pizzo, who also had one goal and one assist and Chris Goulet, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Thorold also got a goal from Quinn Geddes as well. More assists for Thorold came via Zach McQuade, who had two and Ryan Sarris and Kyle Tanev, who contributed one a piece.

Buffalo excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Regals' offense rang up 37 shots on Thorold's net.

Buffalo was led by Kennedy Monaco, who scored the team's only goal. Monaco scored on the power play 17:47 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Thorold. The Regals had taken the advantage when the Blackhawks' Roger Sherwood got sent off for spearing. Jake Battistoni provided the assist.

Thorold incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Blackhawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Michael Sharpe was ejected from the game. Buffalo's Dentico stopped 60 shots out of the 64 that he faced. The Regals incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
