Stratford blows out Waterloo, 7-3

The Waterloo Siskins had trouble finding ways to stop the Stratford Cullitons, which beat Siskins, 7-3.

Waterloo fell victim to a deadly Stratford power play, which ripped the Siskins for four goals.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:55 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Cullitons forced Waterloo goalie Ryan Hergott to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Stratford's goal total was higher than its season average. The Cullitons average 3.5 goals per game. Stratford struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 27 penalty minutes for nine opposing power plays. The Cullitons got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Stratford was led by Nick Nigro, who finished with one goal and three assists. Nigro scored on the power play 10:29 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Stratford. The Cullitons had taken the advantage when the Siskins' Evan Buehler got sent off for cross checking. Drew Gross picked up the assist. Stratford additionally got points from Jordan Currie, who also registered one goal and two assists, Ryker Killins, who also had one goal and two assists, and Gross, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Stratford included Mitch Vandergunst, who had one and Trevor Sauder, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Stratford were Pat McKelvie(APJ), Mitch Brooks, Brett Heaman, and Tyson Baker, who each chipped in one.

Waterloo was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The Siskins had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Waterloo's offense rang up 33 shots on Stratford's net.

The Siskins were helped by Thomas Carey, who had one goal. Carey scored on the power play 52 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-2 Stratford. Christian Mroczkowski provided the assist. Waterloo also got a goal from Troy Lajeunesse as well. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Danny Hanlon, who had two and Nick Hirst, Travis Harvey, and Ryan Taylor, who contributed one a piece.

Michael Pesendorfer made 30 saves for the Cullitons on 33 shots. For Stratford, Dylan Wettlaufer was ejected from the game. Hergott recorded 28 saves for Waterloo. The Siskins ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Carey was ejected from the game.
