Lambton Shores wins tough contest against St. Thomas, 7-5

The Lambton Shores Predators gutted out a close 7-5 win against the St. Thomas Stars.

Lambton Shores gained the winning advantage on a goal by Matthew Kenney 14:33 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Predators forced St. Thomas goalie Jackson McIntosh to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. Lambton Shores bested its season scoring average. The Predators average 2.7 goals per game. Lambton Shores could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Predators were helped by Brendan Trottier, who had two goals. Trottier scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 19:14 into the first period to make the score 2-2. A roughing penalty on Cam Garrow had put Lambton Shores on the power play. Ryan Fraser assisted on the tally. Trottier's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 12:02 left in the second period. Fraser picked up the assist. Lambton Shores also got points from Ryan Trottier, who also registered one goal and one assist and Steven Beenackers, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Lambton Shores also got a goal from Nick Sproveiro as well. More assists for Lambton Shores came via Jay Ritchie, Ty Jackson, and Kyler Keating, who contributed one a piece.

The Stars kept the Predators' goalie busy throughout the game, and Justin Fazio made 38 saves on 43 shots. St. Thomas got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. The Stars found themselves short handed often, totaling 30 penalty minutes and allowing 10 power plays.

St. Thomas was helped by Braden Hellems, who racked up two goals and one assist. Hellems scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:56 into the first period to make the score 2-0 St. Thomas. The Stars earned a power play opportunity when Bryan Boersma was put in the box for roughing after whistle. Alex Morgan provided the assist. Hellems' next tally on the power play made the score 5-5 with 14:31 left in the third period. St. Thomas had taken the advantage when Lambton Shores' Brett Duncan got sent off for slashing. Mitch Klie picked up the assist. St. Thomas additionally got points from Ryan Hamelin, who also had one goal and one assist, Klie, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Luc Knight, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Josh Slegers and Josh Coyle(APM), who each chipped in one.

Jackson McIntosh made 35 saves for the Stars on 41 shots. St. Thomas registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. The Stars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Garrow was ejected from the game.
