Babkirk nets hat trick, leads Sarnia to 15-5 win over St. Marys

Riley Babkirk lifted the Sarnia Legionnaires to a 15-5 victory with a hat trick against the St. Marys Lincolns.

Babkirk's first goal came 4:32 into the second period. He then added goals at 10:39 into the second and at 1:58 into the third.

Sarnia led by only one goal at the end of the first period, but put the game away by scoring seven goals in the second.

St. Marys was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Legionnaires were able to score five times while on the power play.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:33 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Sarnia forced Lincolns' netminders to work without much rest, ripping 39 shots and forcing 24 saves. Tyler Beattie made 15 stops and Andrew Ganter made nine. The Legionnaires outdid their season average for goals scored. Sarnia has scored at the pace of 4.6 goals per game during the current campaign. The Legionnaires' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Sarnia also got points from Curtis Crombeen, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Josh Kestner, who also registered one goal and one assist, Ryan Vendramin, who also racked up three goals and one assist, Cody Trowell, who also had one goal and two assists, Brett Corrigan, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Bobby King, who also registered one goal and one assist, cody slaght, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Tyler Prong, who also had one goal and three assists. Ryan Lyle(apj) also scored for Sarnia. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Nathan Mater, who had two and Hunter Tyczynski, Hayden Allen, and Brad Campbell(APJ), who each chipped in one.

The Lincolns found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, St. Marys averages 2.3 goals per contest.

The Lincolns were led by Ben Kirwin, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Kirwin scored 17:26 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Sarnia. Colin Nancekinell provided the assist. St. Marys additionally got points from Nancekinell, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for St. Marys included Braydon Blight, who had one and Rai Diloreto, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for St. Marys were Chandler Allen, Nico Giannantonio, Braydon Weston APM, Garret James (APM), and Nathan Smith APM, who contributed one a piece.

Braden Palocz took the win and made 12 saves before being replaced by Jake Danson who made four saves. Sarnia ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Legionnaires ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Crombeen was ejected from the game. St. Marys totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For the Lincolns, Mike Siddall was ejected from the game.
