Chatham wins tough contest against Leamington, 3-2

The game between the Chatham Maroons and the Leamington Flyers was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Chatham emerged with a 3-2 win.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Kyle Brothers's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Brothers was all over the ice for the Maroons, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Brothers scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham. Chatham had gotten the advantage when Leamington's Tony Spidalieri was sent off for roughing. Steven Szekesy assisted on the tally. Brothers' next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Chatham with 19:44 left in the third period. Adam Arseneault provided the assist.

The Maroons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Leamington power plays.

Chatham additionally got points from Arseneault, who also tallied one goal and two assists. In addition, Chatham received assists from Michael Verboom, who had one.

The Flyers could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Leamington puts an average of 4.6 pucks into the net per game.

The Flyers were helped by Dylan Seguin, who had one goal. Seguin scored 6:49 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Spidalieri assisted on the tally. Leamington also got a goal from Cale Allen as well. More assists for Leamington came via David Dalby and Colin Moore, who each chipped in one.

Darien Ekblad made 26 saves for Chatham on 28 shots. The Maroons totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. Chatham ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Oliver Blayne was ejected from the game. Trevor Wheaton recorded 25 saves for Leamington. The Flyers ended with 45 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Leamington, Mitchell Amante was ejected from the game.
