Waterloo falls to Kitchener in overtime, 2-1 (OT)

The Kitchener Dutchmen pulled out a 2-1 (OT) overtime victory over the Waterloo Siskins on a clutch goal by Mitchell Smith.

Waterloo was stymied by Kitchener netminder Marc Williams, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. Williams managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.83 prior to the game.

The Dutchmen were led by Smith, who racked up one goal. Smith scored on the power play 4:03 into overtime to make the score 2-1 Kitchener. A holding penalty on Eric Cimino had put Kitchener on the power play. Keegan Calder picked up the assist.

The Dutchmen's offense rang up 33 shots on the Siskins' net.

Kitchener also got a goal from Keli Grant as well. More assists for Kitchener came via Brett Clampitt, who had one and Clayton Greer, who had two.

Waterloo could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Siskins average 3.5 goals per game.

Waterloo was led by Ryan Taylor, who scored the team's only goal. Taylor scored on the power play 3:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Waterloo. The Siskins had gotten the advantage when Kitchener's Calder was sent off for hooking. Joshua Defarias assisted on the tally.

The Dutchmen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Leo Lazarev made 31 saves for Waterloo on 33 shots. The Siskins totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Waterloo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jarrett Parker was ejected from the game.
