Murphy nets hat trick, leads Caledonia to 8-2 win over Fort Erie

Connor Murphy lifted the Caledonia Corvairs to an 8-2 victory with a hat trick against the Fort Erie Meteors.

Murphy notched his first tally 3:52 into the first period. He then added goals at 7:47 into the first and at 5:32 into the third.

Caledonia made Fort Erie's goaltenders to work in net, getting 41 shots and forcing 33 saves. Josh Rosettani made 12 stops and Matt Baker made 21. The Corvairs stifled the Meteors' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Caledonia outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Corvairs average 5.2 goals per contest.

Caledonia also got points from Spencer Gourlay, who also registered one goal and one assist, Cody Brown, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Jeffrey Marlott, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Caledonia also got a goal from Brooker Muir as well. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Kyler Nixon, who had four, Jordan Peacock and Jake Brown, who contributed one a piece, and Justin Abraham and Connor Patton, who each chipped in two.

Fort Erie was led by Mike Boles, who finished with one goal and one assist. Boles scored 3:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fort Erie. Alex Hurren assisted on the tally. Richard DeMarco also scored for Fort Erie. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Josh Micallef and Jared Marino, who contributed one a piece.

Colin Furlong recorded 21 saves for Caledonia. The Corvairs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Meteors incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Fort Erie ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jack Webb was ejected from the game.
