Elmira squeaks by Listowel, 3-2Listowel Arena Fri, Oct 25, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Elmira Sugar Kings gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Listowel Cyclones. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Adam Campagnolo's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Listowel's power play was ineffective against Elmira's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Sugar Kings were sparked by Campagnolo, who finished with one goal and one assist. Campagnolo scored 14:36 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Elmira. Austin Fischer assisted on the tally. The Cyclones were unable to stop Elmira from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sugar Kings eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. Elmira struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 46 penalty minutes for 12 opposing power plays. Rob Kohli also scored for Elmira. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Craig Johnson, Jaden Goetz(APJ), and Brennon Pearce, who contributed one a piece. Listowel's offense rang up 35 shots on the Sugar Kings' net. The Cyclones' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Listowel finished with 40 penalty minutes. The Cyclones were helped by Kenny Huether, who had one goal. Huether scored short handed six seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Listowel also got a goal from Mac Nichol as well. More assists for Listowel came via Ted Nichol, who had one. Hayden Neuman recorded 33 saves for Elmira. The Sugar Kings registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Daniel Dekoning made 45 saves for Listowel on 48 shots.
