Brantford holds on for 2-1 win against Stratford

The Brantford 99ers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Stratford Cullitons on the way to a 2-1 win.

Brantford took a 2-0 lead during the second period, only to have Stratford storm back on a Jake Pleon goal 15:47 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The 99ers' Marcus Del Conte was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 56 saves and let only one puck past him. Del Conte certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 4.19 entering the contest.

Brantford was led by Mitch Atkins, who finished with one goal. Atkins scored on the power play 13:08 into the second period to make the score Brantford. The 99ers had gained a power play chance when Maverick Petrie was whistled for goalie interference. Guy Polillo picked up the assist.

Brantford excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The 99ers did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 14 shots on net to force 12 saves.

Nathan Bastian also scored for Brantford. In addition, Brantford received assists from Leonard Dziemianko, who had one and Keegan Alvestad, who had two.

The Cullitons forced Brantford goalie Del Conte to work between the pipes, taking 57 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Stratford were Josh Miller and Tyson Baker, who contributed one a piece.

The 99ers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Michael Pesendorfer took the loss and made three saves before being replaced by Nick Caldwell who made nine saves. Stratford incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
