St. Thomas stifles London's comeback, gains 5-3 victory

The St. Thomas Stars came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the London Nationals, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

St. Thomas led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Stars' Alex Morgan's scored at 15:52 in the second period to put St. Thomas up 4-1.

In a losing effort, London was led by Derek Todosichuk, who tallied two goals. Todosichuk scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:14 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Thomas. The Nationals had taken the advantage when the Stars' Brett Van Dusen got sent off for hooking. Ryan Shipley provided the assist. Todosichuk's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 St. Thomas with 15:50 left in the third period. London had gotten the advantage when St. Thomas' Aiden Jamieson was sent off for cross checking. Ryan Tuffin assisted on the tally.

In the losing effort, the Nationals were paced by Todosichuk, who had two goals.

The Stars were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on 12 chances.

St. Thomas was helped by Josh Coyle(APM), who racked up one goal. Coyle(APM) scored 11:37 into the first period to make the score 2-0 St. Thomas. Luc Knight provided the assist. St. Thomas also got points from Morgan, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Braden Hellems, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Josh Slegers also scored for St. Thomas. More assists for St. Thomas came via Lucas Triemstra, who had one.

The Stars were unable to stop London from sending pucks towards the net, and the Nationals eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. London could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.

London also got a goal from Tristen Elie as well. In addition, London received assists from Paul Hopkins and Keaton Ratcliffe, who each chipped in one.

Riley Brown made 33 saves for St. Thomas on 36 shots. The Stars incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Jacob Riley recorded 21 saves for the Nationals. London registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. The Nationals ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Scott Lombardi was ejected from the game.
