GAME RECAP

Leamington survives LaSalle comeback, wins 3-2

Vollmer Recreation Complex    Wed, Oct 23, 2013

The Leamington Flyers survived a determined comeback attempt by the LaSalle Vipers on the way to a 3-2 win.

Leamington took a 3-0 lead during the second period, only to have LaSalle storm back on a Dylan Denomme goal 14:26 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Alex Friesen had a great game for the Flyers, netting two goals.

Leamington made the Vipers' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 36 shots and forcing 33 saves. Cameron Zanussi made 16 stops and Paolo Battisti made 17. The Flyers found themselves short handed often, totaling 28 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

Leamington also got a goal from David Dalby as well. More assists for Leamington came via Mitchell Amante and Cale Allen, who contributed one a piece.

LaSalle racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 27.0 minutes per game the Vipers had been spending in the box. LaSalle stifled Leamington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Vipers were held below their usual level of production. LaSalle averages 5.0 goals per game. The Flyers were unable to stop the Vipers from sending pucks towards the net, and LaSalle eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Nathan Savage also scored for LaSalle. In addition, LaSalle received assists from Ben Hanus, who had one and Andrew Burns, who had two.

Trevor Wheaton rejected 36 shots on goal for Leamington. The Flyers registered zero goals on seven power play opportunities. Team's Zack Percy and Bryce Mayea were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
