Caledonia outlasts Buffalo, 4-3

The Caledonia Corvairs and the Buffalo Regals were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Caledonia made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3.

The Corvairs gained the winning advantage on a goal by Spencer Gourlay 4:52 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Caledonia's penalty kill excelled, as the Corvairs gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the second period. Six fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Caledonia stifled Buffalo's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Corvairs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 27 minutes in penalties during the game.

Caledonia was led by Todd Ratchford, who finished with two goals. Ratchford scored the first of his two goals at 3:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. Cosimo Fontana assisted on the tally. Ratchford's next tally made the score 3-3 with 28 seconds left in the second period. Matt Quilty provided the assist. Caledonia also got points from Fontana, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Brooker Muir, Justin Abraham, Kyler Nixon, and Jeffrey Marlott, who contributed one a piece.

The Regals forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and three majors for 25 minutes in penalty time. Buffalo surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The Regals stifled the Corvairs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Buffalo was led by Ddomonic Gruttadauria AP, who grabbed two goals. Gruttadauria AP scored the first of his two goals at 10:26 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kennedy Monaco assisted on the tally. Gruttadauria AP's next tally made the score 3-2 Buffalo with 4:48 left in the second period. Matthew Shumate picked up the assist. Buffalo also got a goal from Christopher Moses as well. More assists for Buffalo came via Jake Burford, Jake Battistoni, and Matt Mahony, who each chipped in one.

Caledonia's Colin Furlong stopped 13 shots out of the 16 that he faced. The Corvairs registered zero goals on six power play opportunities. Team's Abraham, Connor Patton, and Scott Dorian were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Adam Dentico rejected 25 shots on goal for the Regals. For Buffalo, Taggart Ledyard, Gruttadauria AP, and Stephen Schulz were ejected from the contest.
