Waterloo beats Elmira 2-0 as Lazarev gains shutout

Leo Lazarev recorded a shutout against the Elmira Sugar Kings as the Waterloo Siskins picked up a 2-0 win.

Waterloo was paced by Ryan Taylor, who finished with one goal. Taylor scored 15:45 into the third period to make the score 1-0 Waterloo. Troy Lajeunesse assisted on the tally.

The Siskins put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Elmira to score on any of its four power plays. Waterloo featured an improved defense during the game. The Siskins gives up 2.6 goals on average per game.

Connor Bodnar also scored for Waterloo. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Christian Mroczkowski, who had one.

The Sugar Kings stifled Waterloo's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Elmira's offense operated below it season average. The Sugar Kings put an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game. Elmira kept the Siskins' goalie busy throughout the game, and Lazarev made 33 saves on 33 shots.

Waterloo incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Hayden Neuman recorded 26 saves for the Sugar Kings. Elmira incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
