Niagara Falls hangs on, beats Ancaster 2-1

The Niagara Falls Canucks beat the Ancaster Avalanche, 2-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

A goal 6:33 into the the first period by Mitch McIntosh proved to be the game winner, and powered Niagara Falls to the victory Garrett Gallardi picked up the assist.

The Canucks were led by goalie Dylan Pietrangelo, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Pietrangelo will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.16.

Niagara Falls was led by Dylan Savory, who registered one goal. Savory scored 2:13 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Niagara Falls. Cole Vinnai assisted on the tally.

The Canucks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Other players who recorded assists for Niagara Falls were Johnny Curran, who had one.

Ancaster put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Niagara Falls to score on any of its six power plays. The Avalanche did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Ancaster puts an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game.

The Avalanche were led by Luke Zupan, who scored the team's only goal. Zupan scored 6:17 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Niagara Falls. Blake Luscombe provided the assist.

The Canucks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Ancaster's Braydon Banitsiotis stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Avalanche incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
