Marsden's big game bests Stratford in 5-2 Guelph win

Behind a great game by Matt Marsden, who had two goals and one assist, the Guelph Hurricanes defeated the Stratford Cullitons, 5-2.

Marsden scored on the power play at 15:31 into the first period to make the score 2-2 and again while on the power play 7:25 into the third to make the score 5-2 Guelph.

Stratford fell victim to a deadly Guelph power play, which ripped the Cullitons for four goals.

Stratford was unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Guelph eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Hurricanes could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Guelph also got points from Ian Chan, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Zach McFadden, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Jordan Hatzinger also scored for Guelph. More assists for Guelph came via Sebastian Stangherlin, who had one and Matt Lippa, who had four.

The Cullitons forced Guelph goalie Bradley Van Schubert to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Stratford could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 54 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Cullitons were helped by Trevor Sauder, who registered one goal. Sauder scored on the power play 12:31 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A roughing after whistle penalty on Craig Martini had put Stratford on the power play. Ryker Killins assisted on the tally. Stratford additionally got points from Dylan Wettlaufer, who also tallied one goal and one assist.

Van Schubert recorded 33 saves for the Hurricanes. The Cullitons' Nick Caldwell stopped 27 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Stratford registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
