Waterloo beats Cambridge 5-3 after comeback scare

The Waterloo Siskins survived a determined comeback attempt by the Cambridge Winter Hawks on the way to a 5-3 win.

Waterloo made the score 5-2 on a goal by Ryan Taylor at 18:42 in the second period, and Cambridge got as close as 5-3 when Matt Pinder scored 9:10 into the third period.

The Siskins were helped by Danny Hanlon, who grabbed one goal. Hanlon scored short handed 19:08 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Waterloo. Waterloo found itself down a man on Travis Harvey's high sticking. Waterloo also got points from Harvey, who also registered one goal and one assist and Dalton Hnatko, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Christian Mroczkowski also scored for Waterloo. More assists for Waterloo came via Eric Cimino, Troy Lajeunesse, Matt Sheick, Thomas Carey, Joshua Defarias, and Andrew Brubacher, who contributed one a piece.

Cambridge also got a goal from Jordan Chard as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Marcellis Subban, who had one and Adam Dauda, who had two.

Leo Lazarev made 18 saves for the Siskins on 21 shots. Waterloo incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For the Siskins, Cimino was ejected from the game. Darren Huck took the loss and made 11 saves before being replaced by Jacob Keogh who made three saves. The Winter Hawks incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
