Brett Dalton lifted the Strathroy Rockets to an 11-2 victory with a hat trick against the St. Thomas Stars. Dalton got on the scoresheet 2:00 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:49 into the second and at 1:28 into the third.Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:25 into the third period. Six fighting penalties were dished out along with five game misconducts. Strathroy made St. Thomas' netminders to work in net, launching 60 shots and forcing 49 saves. Riley Brown made 36 stops and Jackson McIntosh made 13. The Rockets bested their season scoring average. Strathroy has scored at the pace of 4.0 goals per game during the current campaign. Strathroy also got points from Ryan Field, who also had one goal and one assist, Mike Mandarelli, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Nick Boyer, who also registered one goal and one assist, Colin Hartwick, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Wes Baker, who also had two goals and three assists to lead the team in points. Jack Kilgour also scored for Strathroy. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Tyler Duarte, who had three and Shawn Grogan, Tony Belony, Kirk Dorman, and Dan Chapman, who contributed one a piece. The Stars forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and three majors for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game St. Thomas had been spending in the box. The Rockets were unable to stop the Stars from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Thomas eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Stars were led by Luc Knight, who tallied two goals. Knight scored the first of his two goals at 1:03 into the third period to make the score 9-1 Strathroy. Josh Coyle(APM) assisted on the tally. Knight's next tally made the score 10-2 Strathroy with 15:36 left in the third period. Cam Garrow picked up the assist. Strathroy's Tynan Lauziere stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Rockets totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. For Strathroy, Hartwick was ejected from the game. St. Thomas registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For the Stars, Austin Ullet and Mike Worby were ejected from the contest. |
