Leamington uses shootout to best St. Marys, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Leamington Flyers defeated the St. Marys Lincolns in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. St. Marys' shootout goal was scored by Garret James (APM). Leamington's other shootout goal was scored by Chris Scott.

The Lincolns were unable to stop the Flyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Leamington eventually piled up 52 shots on goal.

The Flyers were helped by Nathan Opblinger, who grabbed one goal. Opblinger scored on the power play 16:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Leamington. A slashing penalty on Colin Nancekinell had put Leamington on the power play. Dylan Seguin assisted on the tally. Leamington also got a goal from Colin Moore as well. Other players who recorded assists for Leamington were Kyle Shaw, David Dalby, and Scott, who contributed one a piece.

St. Marys was helped by Carson Brookshaw, who racked up one goal. Brookshaw scored on the power play 12:33 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Lincolns had gotten the advantage when the Flyers' Moore was sent off for too many men. Braydon Blight picked up the assist. Nico Giannantonio also scored for St. Marys. More assists for St. Marys came via James (APM), Rai Diloreto, and Callum Ruddock, who each chipped in one.

Leamington's Trevor Wheaton stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Flyers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. For Leamington, Jacob McGhee was ejected from the game. Nick Dampier rejected 49 shots on goal for St. Marys. The Lincolns incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
