Waterloo falls to Brantford in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Brantford 99ers pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Waterloo Siskins on a clutch goal by Nathan Bastian.

Although Brantford was up by as many as two goals in the second period, Waterloo kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Siskins pulled to within 3-2 on a goal by Troy Lajeunesse at 4:19 in the third period.

Bastian was all over the ice for the 99ers, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Bastian scored on the power play 4:48 into overtime to make the score 4-3 Brantford. Brantford had gotten the advantage when Waterloo's Matt Sheick was sent off for holding stick. Guy Polillo provided the assist.

The 99ers' offense rang up 32 shots on the Siskins' net. Brantford was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of 10 man advantages.

Brantford additionally got points from Polillo, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Nathan Ferris, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Mitch Atkins, who also registered one goal and one assist.

Waterloo kept the 99ers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Marcus Del Conte made 32 saves on 35 shots. The Siskins' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Waterloo finished with 28 penalty minutes.

The Siskins were led by Ryan Taylor, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Taylor scored on the power play 14:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Waterloo. Waterloo earned a power play opportunity when Kevin Fitzpatrick was put in the box for high sticking. Christian Mroczkowski picked up the assist. Waterloo also got a goal from Nick Hirst as well. More assists for Waterloo came via Thomas Carey and Joshua Defarias, who each chipped in one.

Brantford incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Ryan Hergott recorded 28 saves for the Siskins. Waterloo registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
