Thorold downs Ancaster in overtime, 4-3 (OT)Thorold Community Arena Thu, Oct 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Thorold Blackhawks pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Ancaster Avalanche on a clutch goal by Drake Hart. Thorold almost relinquished a three-score lead. The Blackhawks made it 3-0 on a goal by Hart at 16:42 in the second period. Ancaster got to within 3-2 on a goal by Ryan Lewis at 9:29 in the third period. Thorold excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Blackhawks' offense rang up 49 shots on the Avalanche's net. Owen Sobchak also scored for Thorold. In addition, Thorold received assists from Roger Sherwood, who had two and Matt Pizzo, Kevin Lavoie, Chris Goulet, Joe Mitchell, and Michael Sharpe, who contributed one a piece. Ancaster forced Thorold goalie Brendan Polasek to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots. The Avalanche were led by Zach Niemanen, who finished with one goal and one assist. Niemanen scored 6:49 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Thorold. Michael Pollice provided the assist. Ancaster also got points from Pollice, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Ancaster were Blake Luscombe, Luke Zupan, and Christopher Klack, who each chipped in one. Brendan Polasek made 43 saves for the Blackhawks on 46 shots. Thorold totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Blackhawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nick Sacco was ejected from the game. Blake Richard recorded 45 saves for Ancaster. The Avalanche ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Team's Cole Nagy and Hayden Guitard were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
