LaSalle shrugs off penalties, upends Sarnia, 5-2

The LaSalle Vipers, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Sarnia Legionnaires' power play opportunities and emerged with a 5-2 victory.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:04 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

LaSalle made Sarnia's goaltenders to work in net, racking up 37 shots and forcing 32 saves. Braden Palocz made 27 stops and Sean Parker made five. The Vipers stifled the Legionnaires' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

LaSalle was led by Brendan McCann, who racked up one goal and one assist. McCann scored on the power play 15:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 LaSalle. The Vipers had gotten the advantage when Sarnia's Hayden Allen was sent off for hooking. Mark Manchurek assisted on the tally. LaSalle additionally got points from Dylan Denomme, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. LaSalle also got a goal from Rio Anzolin as well. In addition, LaSalle received assists from Austin Hall, who had three and Zack Percy and Aaron Luchuk, who each chipped in one.

The Legionnaires were helped by Cody Trowell, who had one goal. Trowell scored 14:11 into the second period to make the score 3-2 LaSalle. Ryan Vendramin picked up the assist. Josh Kestner also scored for Sarnia. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Mitchell Minder, Riley Babkirk, and Jordan Fogarty, who contributed one a piece.

LaSalle's Paolo Battisti stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Vipers totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. For LaSalle, Billy Eansor was ejected from the game. Sarnia totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 0-for-7 on the power play. The Legionnaires ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Babkirk was ejected from the game.
