Port Colborne uses shootout to best Ancaster, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Port Colborne Pirates defeated the Ancaster Avalanche in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams.

Port Colborne was led by Brock Ackerman, who finished with one goal. Ackerman scored on the power play 2:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Colborne. The Pirates had taken the advantage when Ancaster's Zach Niemanen got sent off for roughing. Liam VanBuren provided the assist.

In a losing effort, the Avalanche were paced by Niemanen, who tallied one goal and two assists. Niemanen scored 19:21 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Harrison Domagala assisted on the tally.

Port Colborne also got a goal from James Mewse-Detrich as well. In addition, Port Colborne received assists from Charlie Izaguirre, who had two and Cody Mintz and Mack Steele, who each chipped in one.

Ancaster forced Port Colborne goalie Mitchell Knight to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Ancaster additionally got points from Eric Eustace, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Ryan Lewis, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Ancaster came via Cole Nagy, who had one.

Knight recorded 30 saves for the Pirates. Port Colborne incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. The Avalanche's Blake Richard stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Ancaster incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Avalanche ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Max Balinson was ejected from the game.
