Huge game by Nixon boosts Caledonia over Fort Erie, 9-3

Behind a great game by Kyler Nixon, who had one goal and three assists, the Caledonia Corvairs defeated the Fort Erie Meteors, 9-3.

Nixon beat Josh Rosettani with a shot 7:59 into the first period on the power play to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. Caledonia had gotten the advantage when Fort Erie's Aaron Wanat was sent off for high sticking. Matt Quilty assisted on the tally. Nixon dished an assist on Spencer Gourlay's goal that made the score 4-1 Caledonia at 4:04 into the second period. He then added assists on Jeffrey Marlott's goal at 18:22 into the second and on Connor Patton's goal at 6:51 into the third.

The Corvairs forced the Meteors goalie Rosettani to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. Caledonia bested its season scoring average. The Corvairs have scored at the pace of 5.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Caledonia was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 35 penalty minutes. Team could not crack Fort Erie's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Caledonia also got points from Gourlay, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Connor Murphy, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Patton, who also registered one goal and two assists, Marlott, who also had one goal and one assist, and Jake Brown, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Caledonia also had goals scored by Cosimo Fontana, who had one and Brooker Muir, who had two. More assists for Caledonia came via Justin Abraham, Mitch Brown, and Curtis DOrtenzo, who each chipped in one and Cody Brown and Brier Jonathan, who contributed two a piece.

The Meteors were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances. Fort Erie could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Meteors were led by Jesse Pereira, who racked up one goal and one assist. Pereira scored on the power play 16 seconds into the third period to make the score 5-3 Caledonia. Nik Passero provided the assist. Fort Erie additionally got points from Passero, who also registered one goal and one assist. Jared Marino also scored for Fort Erie. Other players who recorded assists for Fort Erie were Sam Quaranta, who had two and Braden Kavaratzis and Richard DeMarco, who each chipped in one.

DOrtenzo rejected 25 shots on goal for the Corvairs. Caledonia ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Steven Comegna was ejected from the game. Rosettani recorded 38 saves for Fort Erie.
