Elmira uses big second period to beat Brantford, 6-0Gretzky Main Rink Thu, Oct 10, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Elmira Sugar Kings used a three-goal second period to put away the Brantford 99ers, 6-0. Elmira was boosted by Hayden Neuman, who turned in a shutout with 27 saves. The solid play of Neuman will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.56. Cash Seraphim had a great game for the Sugar Kings, netting two goals. Seraphim found the back of the net 1:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira and again while 17:36 into the second to make the score 4-0 Elmira. Elmira's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 12 Brantford power plays. The Sugar Kings forced Brantford goalie Marcus Del Conte to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. Elmira could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 48 minutes in penalties during the game. Elmira additionally got points from David Savery, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Zac Coulter, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Brad Kobryn also scored for Elmira. In addition, Elmira received assists from Adam Brubacher, Cass Frey, Mitch Wright, Austin Fischer, and Matt Harding, who each chipped in one and Rob Kohli and Brett Parsons, who contributed two a piece. The 99ers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Sugar Kings to score on any of their nine power plays. Brantford could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The 99ers put an average of 2.2 pucks into the net per game. Brantford's Del Conte stopped 43 shots out of the 49 that he faced. The 99ers incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
