Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the LaSalle Vipers defeated the St. Thomas Stars in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO). The shootout lasted for 12 attempts between the teams.Aaron Luchuk had one goal and two assists to lead LaSalle. Luchuk scored 2:28 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Blake Jones assisted on the tally. In the losing effort, St. Thomas was led by Lucas Triemstra, who grabbed two goals. Triemstra scored the first of his two goals at 6:58 into the third period to make the score 3-2 St. Thomas. Braden Hellems picked up the assist. Triemstra's next tally made the score 4-4 with 7:13 left in the third period. The Stars had gotten the advantage when the Vipers' Ben Hanus was sent off for hooking. Gus Ford assisted on the tally. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:32 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. LaSalle was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Vipers had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. LaSalle forced St. Thomas goalie Jackson McIntosh to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Mark Manchurek also scored for LaSalle. More assists for LaSalle came via Austin Hall and Nathan Veres, who each chipped in one. The defensemen of the Stars were also effective in the Vipers' zone, and came away with two goals. St. Thomas additionally got points from Ryan Hamelin, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. St. Thomas also got a goal from Josh Coyle(APM) as well. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Cam Garrow, Andrew Yurek, Alex Morgan, Luc Knight, and Matt Simsons, who contributed one a piece. LaSalle's Cameron Zanussi stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Vipers registered two goals on five power play opportunities. LaSalle ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bryce Mayea was ejected from the game. Jackson McIntosh made 34 saves for St. Thomas on 38 shots. The Stars totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. For St. Thomas, Josh Slegers and Garrow were ejected from the contest.
