St. Marys beats Sarnia 5-3 after comeback scare

The Sarnia Legionnaires tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the St. Marys Lincolns would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3.

A goal by Braydon Blight put St. Marys up 5-2 in the third period, but Sarnia pulled to within two on Ryan Vendramin's tally 19:46 into the third period.

Mike Siddall had one goal and three assists to lead the Lincolns. Siddall scored on the power play 38 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. St. Marys earned a power play opportunity when Curtis Crombeen was put in the box for leaving penalty bench. Blight assisted on the tally.

The Lincolns racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and two majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game St. Marys had been spending in the box. The Lincolns kept the Legionnaires' goalie busy throughout the game, and Braden Palocz made 28 saves on 33 shots. St. Marys' goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Lincolns average 2.6 goals per contest.

St. Marys also got points from Blight, who also registered one goal and two assists. Cody Filson also scored for St. Marys. In addition, St. Marys received assists from Luke Jackson and Callum Ruddock, who contributed one a piece.

Sarnia was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. The Legionnaires surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. Sarnia was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on 13 chances.

The Legionnaires were helped by Thomas Moxley, who racked up one goal. Moxley scored on the power play 3:39 into the third period to make the score 4-2 St. Marys. Sarnia had gained a power play chance when Carson Brookshaw was whistled for checking from behind. Bobby King picked up the assist. Sarnia also got a goal from Riley Babkirk as well. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Josh Kestner, Mitchell Minder, Hunter Tyczynski, and Riley Roberts, who each chipped in one.

Nick Dampier made 27 saves for St. Marys on 30 shots. The Lincolns registered four goals on nine power play opportunities. For St. Marys, Nico Giannantonio, Alex Deluce, and Brookshaw were ejected from the contest. Team's Davis Boyer, Crombeen, and cody slaght were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
