Chatham survives London comeback, wins 5-4

The Chatham Maroons survived a determined comeback attempt by the London Nationals on the way to a 5-4 win.

Chatham made the score 5-3 on a goal by Brayden Hopkins at 4:37 in the third period, and London got as close as 5-4 when Matt Doty scored 16:05 into the third period.

Kyle Brothers was all over the ice for the Maroons, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Brothers scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:44 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Chatham. A holding penalty on Scott Lombardi had put Chatham on the power play. Eric Palazzolo provided the assist. Brothers' next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Chatham with 4:50 left in the second period. The Maroons earned a power play opportunity when Ryan Wells was put in the box for cross checking. Connor Annett assisted on the tally.

Chatham's offense rang up 32 shots on the Nationals' net.

Michael Verboom also scored for Chatham. More assists for Chatham came via Connor McKinnon, Nate Pietens, Connor Doran, Hayden Verbeek, and Matthew Kenney, who contributed one a piece.

London forced the Maroons goalie Brendan Johnston to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Nationals struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 50 penalty minutes for 11 opposing power plays.

London was helped by Keaton Ratcliffe, who had one goal. Ratcliffe scored on the power play 28 seconds into the third period to make the score 4-3 Chatham. Ryan Shipley provided the assist. London also got a goal from Matt Fuller as well. In addition, London received assists from Derek Todosichuk, who had two and Anthony Kotsvos, Tristen Elie, Jonathan Sims, and Matt Wildman, who each chipped in one.

Johnston recorded 32 saves for Chatham. The Maroons incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Nationals' Liam Herbst stopped 27 shots out of the 32 that he faced. London registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For the Nationals, Shipley was ejected from the game.
