Fort Erie falls to Welland in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

Christian DiFonzo gave the Welland Jr. Canadians a 4-3 (OT) victory over the Fort Erie Meteors when he scored 2:14 into the extra period.

Welland was sparked by DiFonzo, who grabbed one goal.

The Jr. Canadians were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on 11 chances.

Welland additionally got points from Adam Mataya, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Jack Fitzgerald, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Matt Cuglietta, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Welland came via Matthew Mateljan, who had two and Patrick Desjardins, Damien Lalonde, and Tyler Stranges, who each chipped in one.

Fort Erie's offense rang up 37 shots on Welland's net. The Meteors could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.

Fort Erie was helped by Carson Johnstone, who registered one goal. Johnstone scored 13:53 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Braden Kavaratzis provided the assist. Fort Erie also got a goal from Jacob Toppazzini as well. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Mike Boles, Alex Hurren, Nicolas Giancola, Richard DeMarco, and Aaron Wanat, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Canadians' Liam Conway stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Welland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Jr. Canadians ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tanner Allen was ejected from the game. Josh Rosettani made 26 saves for the Meteors on 30 shots. Fort Erie registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For the Meteors, DeMarco and Sam Quaranta were ejected from the contest.
