Strathroy's Boyer deadly on offense in 5-2 win against Lambton Shores

Nick Boyer had two goals to lead the Strathroy Rockets to a 5-2 victory over the Lambton Shores Predators.

Boyer's tallies came at 8:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Strathroy and on the power play 16:03 into the first to make the score 3-0 Strathroy.

Lambton Shores was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Strathroy was able to score four times while on the power play.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:38 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Rockets were often in penalty trouble, totaling 17 minors and two majors for 54 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 30.0 minutes per game Strathroy had been spending in the box. The Rockets' offense rang up 37 shots on the Predators' net.

Strathroy also got points from Kirk Dorman, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Mike Mandarelli also scored for Strathroy. Other players who recorded assists for Strathroy were Tyler Coleman, who had two and Jordan DaSilva, Jack Kilgour, Tony Belony, Kurtis Sander, Ryan Field, Andrew Martin, and Wes Baker, who contributed one a piece.

Lambton Shores forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and three majors for 57 minutes in penalty time. The Predators had been averaging 32.0 minutes in penalties per game. Lambton Shores was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on 16 chances.

The Predators were helped by Jay Ritchie, who racked up one goal. Ritchie scored on the power play 1:12 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Strathroy. Lambton Shores earned a power play opportunity when Mandarelli was put in the box for slashing. John Warren assisted on the tally. Lambton Shores also got a goal from Bryan Boersma as well. More assists for Lambton Shores came via Kyler Keating, Ryan Trottier, and Steven Beenackers, who each chipped in one.

Strathroy's PJ Bridges stopped 20 shots out of the 22 that he faced. For the Rockets, Shawn Grogan and Belony were ejected from the contest. Justin Fazio made 32 saves for the Predators on 37 shots. Team's Adam Wammes and Brett Duncan were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
