Cambridge survives Waterloo comeback, wins 2-1

The Waterloo Siskins tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Cambridge Winter Hawks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 2-1.

A goal by Cameron Pentsa put Cambridge up 2-0 in the third period, but Waterloo pulled to within one on Evan Kearns's tally 17:24 into the third period.

The Winter Hawks' Darren Huck was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 42 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Huck will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.92.

Cambridge was led by Pentsa, who registered one goal. Pentsa scored on the power play 5:16 into the third period to make the score Cambridge. The Winter Hawks earned a power play opportunity when Jarrett Parker was put in the box for unsportsmanlike conduct. Maxime Lamontagne picked up the assist.

Anthony Guido also scored for Cambridge. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Hudson Michaelis, who had one.

The Siskins could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Waterloo puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. The Siskins' offense rang up 43 shots on Cambridge's net.

In addition, Waterloo received assists from Michael Mantenuto and Joshua Defarias, who each chipped in one.

The Winter Hawks totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Team's Brandon Plourde, Guido, and Tyler Peters were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Leo Lazarev rejected 24 shots on goal for Waterloo. The Siskins incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
