Listowel squeaks by Brantford, 4-2Gretzky Main Rink Sat, Sep 28, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Listowel Cyclones and the Brantford 99ers was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Listowel emerged with a 4-2 win. The Cyclones gained the winning advantage on a goal by Kevin Gergley 19:52 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Jonathan Langford had two goals to lead Listowel to victory. Langford scored on the power play at 14:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Listowel and again while 8:01 into the third to make the score 3-2 Listowel. The Cyclones pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 18 penalty minutes. Listowel kept Brantford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Marcus Del Conte made 27 saves on 31 shots. The Cyclones were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of 10 man advantages. Listowel additionally got points from Gergley, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Scott Pawson, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Listowel were Mac Nichol, who had two. Listowel was unable to stop the 99ers from sending pucks towards the net, and Brantford eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The 99ers had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 10 chances. Brantford's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the 99ers finished with 34 penalty minutes. Brantford was led by Nathan Bastian, who tallied one goal and one assist. Bastian scored on the power play 3:47 into the third period to make the score 2-2. A cross checking penalty on Nichol had put the 99ers on the power play. Patrice Fozo picked up the assist. Brantford also got a goal from John Nay as well. More assists for Brantford came via Guy Polillo and Cole Cummings, who each chipped in one. Daniel Dekoning recorded 30 saves for the Cyclones.
