Leamington wins tough contest against Strathroy, 4-2

The Leamington Flyers gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Strathroy Rockets.

Leamington gained the winning advantage on a goal by J.P. Grineau 4:01 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Flyers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 22 penalty minutes.

Leamington was sparked by Grineau, who finished with one goal.

Leamington also got points from Nathan Opblinger, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Leamington also got a goal from Mitchell Amante as well. In addition, Leamington received assists from Kyle Quick and Dylan Seguin, who each chipped in one.

Strathroy had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 10 chances.

The Rockets were helped by Wes Baker, who tallied one goal. Baker scored on the power play 19:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Strathroy. Strathroy earned a power play opportunity when Amante was put in the box for slashing. Ryan Field picked up the assist. Tyler Duarte also scored for Strathroy. More assists for Strathroy came via Brett Dalton and Kurtis Sander, who contributed one a piece.

Trevor Wheaton rejected 27 shots on goal for the Flyers. Leamington registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Tynan Lauziere recorded 20 saves for the Rockets. Strathroy incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
