Hart's big game bests Niagara Falls in 8-5 Thorold win

Drake Hart was all over the ice for the Thorold Blackhawks, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Thorold's 8-5 win over the Niagara Falls Canucks.

Hart found the back of the net 19:31 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Thorold and again while on the power play 9:04 into the second to make the score 5-2 Thorold.

The Blackhawks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 25 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:36 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Thorold made Canucks' netminders to work between the pipes, racking up 32 shots and forcing 24 saves. Dylan Pietrangelo made 14 stops and Hunter Johnson made 10. The Blackhawks' goal total was higher than their season average. Thorold has scored at the pace of 5.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

Thorold additionally got points from Owen Sobchak, who also racked up one goal and three assists, Kyle Tanev, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Roger Sherwood, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Thorold also had goals scored by Christian Difelice, who had one and Zach McQuade, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Brady Allen, Quinn Geddes, Joe Mitchell, Michael Sharpe, and Nick Sacco, who contributed one a piece and Matt Pizzo and Kevin Lavoie, who each chipped in two.

Niagara Falls was often in penalty trouble, totaling 12 minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. The Canucks had been averaging 38.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Niagara Falls was helped by Nolan Dunn, who tallied one goal. Dunn scored 3:14 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Thorold. Mitch McIntosh picked up the assist. Niagara Falls also got points from McIntosh, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Vittorio Giannico, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Marcus Michalski also scored for Niagara Falls. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Johnny Curran and Austin Wright, who contributed one a piece and Cole Vinnai and Garrett Gallardi, who each chipped in two.

The Blackhawks' Brendan Polasek stopped 17 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Thorold registered four goals on 14 power play opportunities. The Blackhawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hart was ejected from the game. The Canucks registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Niagara Falls, Tory McLean, Matthew Thorpe, and Vito Scaringi were ejected from the contest.
