Brampton falls apart in second, loses to Waterloo, 6-2

The Brampton Bombers was within striking distance after one period, but the Waterloo Siskins put the pedal down in the second en route to a 6-2 victory.

Luke Gazzola was all over the ice for Waterloo, as he had two goals in the win. Gazzola's tallies came at 14:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Waterloo and 1:37 into the second to make the score 2-0 Waterloo.

The Siskins pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 51 penalty minutes.

Waterloo kept Brampton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Scott Patton made 36 saves on 42 shots.

Waterloo additionally got points from Evan Kearns, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Christian Mroczkowski, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Jarrett Parker, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Thomas Carey also scored for Waterloo. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Nick Hirst, Travis Harvey, Matt Sheick, and Joshua Defarias, who each chipped in one and Michael Mantenuto and Connor Bodnar, who contributed two a piece.

The Bombers forced the Siskins goalie Leo Lazarev to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Brampton could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Bombers were led by Owen Burry, who finished with one goal and one assist. Burry scored 5:32 into the third period to make the score 4-1 Waterloo. Brad Sheppard assisted on the tally. Brampton also got a goal from Jason Smith as well. More assists for Brampton came via Beau Goehrum, who had one.

Waterloo's Lazarev stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Siskins registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Waterloo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Harvey was ejected from the game. Brampton registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For the Bombers, Matt Capicotto and Phil Caputo were ejected from the contest.
