Elmira beats Stratford 9-3 as Goetz(APJ) gets hat trick

A hat trick by Jaden Goetz(APJ) was the highlight in Sugar Kings' 9-3 win against the Stratford Cullitons.

Goetz(APJ)'s first goal came 2:59 into the first period. He then added goals at 3:12 into the first and at 5:18 into the second.

Stratford fell victim to a deadly the Elmira Sugar Kings power play, which ripped the Cullitons for four goals.

Elmira made Cullitons' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, racking up 51 shots and forcing 42 saves. Nick Caldwell made 37 stops and Michael Pesendorfer made five. The Sugar Kings surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Elmira has scored at the pace of 4.8 goals per game during the current campaign. The Sugar Kings could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game. Elmira's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Elmira also got points from Craig Johnson, who also racked up one goal and one assist, David Savery, who also had one goal and one assist, Alex Mutton, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Adam Campagnolo, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Elmira also got a goal from Cass Frey as well. More assists for Elmira came via Adam Brubacher, who had three and Brodie Whitehead, Pat McKelvie(APJ), Brennon Pearce, and Matt Harding, who contributed one a piece.

Stratford forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 12 minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 29.0 minutes per game the Cullitons had been spending in the box. The Sugar Kings were unable to stop Stratford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cullitons eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Stratford was helped by Drew Gross, who registered one goal. Gross scored 19:16 into the first period to make the score 4-2 Elmira. Nick Nigro assisted on the tally. Devon Kropf also scored for Stratford. In addition, Stratford received assists from Dylan Wettlaufer, who had two and Jordan Currie, Trevor Sauder, and Tyson Baker, who each chipped in one.

Elmira's Hayden Neuman stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Cullitons registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For Stratford, Maverick Petrie, Ryker Killins, and Baker were ejected from the contest.
