St. Marys' comeback falls short, St. Thomas wins 5-3

The St. Thomas Stars came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the St. Marys Lincolns, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

St. Thomas led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Stars' Lucas Triemstra's scored on the power play at 2:11 in the second period to put St. Thomas up 3-0.

Gus Ford had one goal and two assists to lead the Stars. Ford scored 6:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas. Austin Ullet assisted on the tally.

St. Thomas kept St. Marys' goalie busy throughout the game, and Quentin Prokopetz made 27 saves on 32 shots. The Stars surpassed their usual scoring output this season. St. Thomas averages 2.2 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

St. Thomas additionally got points from Josh Slegers, who also registered one goal and one assist and Brett Van Dusen, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Braden Hellems also scored for St. Thomas. More assists for St. Thomas came via Andrew Yurek, Ryan Hamelin, Luc Knight, and Josh Coyle(APM), who each chipped in one.

The Stars were unable to stop the Lincolns from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Marys eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

The Lincolns were helped by Rai Diloreto, who finished with one goal. Diloreto scored on the power play 11:14 into the second period to make the score 3-3. St. Marys earned a power play opportunity when Micheal Woolley was put in the box for hooking. Nico Giannantonio picked up the assist. St. Marys also got points from Cody Filson, who also had one goal and one assist. St. Marys also got a goal from Garret James (APM) as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Marys were Ocean Check, who had one and Braydon Blight, who had two.

Riley Brown recorded 32 saves for St. Thomas. The Stars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Lincolns incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
