Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brantford 99ers defeated the Cambridge Winter Hawks in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.Brantford came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The 99ers trailed 3-2 after a power play goal by Cambridge's Matt Pinder at 18:49 in the second period. Brantford knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Guy Polillo at 19:51 in the third period. In the losing effort, the Winter Hawks were paced by Pinder, who finished with two goals. Pinder scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:15 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cambridge. Cambridge earned a power play opportunity when Nathan Bastian was put in the box for tripping. Adam Dauda provided the assist. Pinder's next tally on the power play made the score Cambridge with 1:11 left in the second period. The Winter Hawks had taken the advantage when the 99ers' Adam Harris got sent off for goalie interference. Dauda assisted on the tally. Brantford's offense rang up 40 shots on Cambridge's net. The 99ers were helped by JJ Harland, who registered one goal. Harland scored 6:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brantford. Luc Hartholt picked up the assist. Brantford additionally got points from John Nay, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Brantford came via Kevin Fitzpatrick and Mitch Atkins, who contributed one a piece.
