LaSalle survives St. Thomas comeback, wins 3-2Vollmer Recreation Complex Wed, Sep 18, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The St. Thomas Stars tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the LaSalle Vipers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2. LaSalle made the score 3-1 on a goal by Nathan Savage at 17:47 in the second period, and St. Thomas got as close as 3-2 when Ryan Hamelin scored 5:16 into the third period. The Vipers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 26 penalty minutes. LaSalle's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six St. Thomas power plays. The Vipers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. LaSalle averages 5.2 goals per game. LaSalle also got points from Ben Hanus, who also registered one goal and one assist. LaSalle also got a goal from Mark Manchurek as well. More assists for LaSalle came via Brendan McCann, who had two and Billy Eansor, Brett Langlois, and Zack Percy, who each chipped in one. The Vipers were unable to stop the Stars from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Thomas eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Stars were helped by Braden Hellems, who grabbed one goal. Hellems scored 9:02 into the second period to make the score 2-1 LaSalle. Lucas Triemstra picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Brett Van Dusen, Luc Knight, and Chris Maton, who contributed one a piece. Cameron Zanussi made 30 saves for LaSalle on 32 shots. The Vipers registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Riley Brown recorded 27 saves for St. Thomas. The Stars incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
