Hart's big game bests Ancaster in 9-4 Thorold win

Drake Hart had two goals and one assist to lead the Thorold Blackhawks to a 9-4 victory over the Ancaster Avalanche.

Hart's tallies came at 5:43 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Thorold and 8:33 into the second to make the score 5-3 Thorold.

Thorold forced Avalanche's netminders to work between the pipes, racking up 37 shots and forcing 28 saves. Jeremy Currie made 17 stops and Matt Calas made 11. The Blackhawks found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Thorold averages 6.0 goals per contest. The Blackhawks' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to Ancaster's power play unit.

Thorold also got points from Owen Sobchak, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Chris Goulet, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Kyle Tanev, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Zach McQuade, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Christian Difelice also scored for Thorold. In addition, Thorold received assists from Matt Pizzo, who had three and Brady Allen, Joe Mitchell, Tyler Kessler, Roger Sherwood, and Brendan Cullen, who contributed one a piece.

The Avalanche put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Thorold to score on any of its four power plays. Ancaster was held below its usual level of production. The Avalanche put an average of 7.3 pucks into the net per game.

Ancaster was helped by Zach Niemanen, who registered two goals. Niemanen scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:20 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Thorold. A tripping penalty on Allen had put the Avalanche on the power play. Ryan Lewis assisted on the tally. Niemanen's next tally on the power play made the score 8-4 Thorold with 11:26 left in the third period. Ancaster had gotten the advantage when the Blackhawks' Sobchak was sent off for slashing. Christopher Klack provided the assist. Ancaster additionally got points from Harrison Domagala, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Ancaster also got a goal from Luke Zupan as well. More assists for Ancaster came via Max Balinson and Jake Milligan, who each chipped in one.

Thorold's Brendan Polasek stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Blackhawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Avalanche incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
