Waterloo squeaks by Stratford, 4-2

The game between the Waterloo Siskins and the Stratford Cullitons was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Waterloo emerged with a 4-2 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Matthew Mah at 13:15 of the third period.

The Siskins' penalty kill excelled, as Waterloo gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

The Siskins were led by Mah, who finished with one goal and one assist.

Waterloo stifled Stratford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Siskins were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 38 penalty minutes.

Waterloo also got points from Evan Kearns, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Christian Mroczkowski, who also had one goal and one assist. Waterloo also got a goal from Michael Mantenuto as well. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Matt Sheick and Dalton Hnatko, who each chipped in one.

The Cullitons forced Waterloo goalie Leo Lazarev to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Stratford's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Cullitons finished with 28 penalty minutes.

Stratford was helped by Mitch Brooks, who registered one goal. Brooks scored 1:31 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Jeff McArdle provided the assist. Stratford additionally got points from Devon Kropf, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Stratford came via Jordan Currie and Trevor Sauder, who contributed one a piece.

Lazarev recorded 34 saves for the Siskins. Waterloo registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. The Cullitons' Nick Caldwell stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced.
