GAME RECAP

Cambridge vanquishes Brampton in shootout, 2-1 (2-1 SO)

Victoria Park Arena    Fri, Sep 13, 2013

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cambridge Winter Hawks defeated the Brampton Bombers in a shootout 2-1 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Brampton got a shootout goal from Andrew Fedorowich. Cambridge's other shootout goal was scored by Brandon Verasamy.

The Winter Hawks overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Cambridge fell behind 1-0 after a goal by the Bombers' Brad Sheppard at 2:10 in the first period. The Winter Hawks tied things up at 1-1 on a short handed goal by Malcolm Bilton at 4:54 in the first period.

Cambridge was led by goalie Jacob Keogh, who finished with 42 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Keogh will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.9.

The Winter Hawks kept Brampton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Scott Patton made 31 saves on 33 shots.

The Bombers managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Brampton finished below its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Cambridge was unable to stop the Bombers from sending pucks towards the net, and Brampton eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Matt Capicotto, who had one.

The Winter Hawks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Bombers registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
