London's Hopkins deadly on offense in 5-2 win against St. Thomas

The London Nationals relied on the scoring touch of Paul Hopkins, who netted two goals, to beat the St. Thomas Stars, 5-2.

Hopkins found the back of the net 7:45 into the second period to make the score 3-1 London and again while 38 seconds into the third to make the score 4-2 London.

London's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three St. Thomas power plays. The Nationals kept St. Thomas' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jackson McIntosh made 32 saves on 37 shots.

London additionally got points from Austin Kemp, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Ryan Wells also scored for London. Other players who recorded assists for London were Matt Fuller, who had two and Mike Worby, Matt Doty, and Derek Todosichuk, who contributed one a piece.

The Stars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

St. Thomas was helped by Chris Maton, who tallied one goal. Maton scored 9:54 into the second period to make the score 3-2 London. Luc Knight assisted on the tally. St. Thomas also got a goal from Ryan Hamelin as well. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Andrew Yurek, who had one.

Nick Dampier recorded 26 saves for London. The Nationals ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For London, Kyle L Robinson was ejected from the game. The Stars ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. St. Thomas ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Micheal Woolley was ejected from the game.
