Guelph uses big games from Yowart and McFadden to down Brantford, 8-5

Behind one goal and three assists from Brad Yowart and two goals and one assist from Zach McFadden, the Guelph Hurricanes downed the Brantford 99ers 8-5.

Yowart scored 7:52 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Guelph. McFadden scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:46 into the third period to make the score 7-5 Guelph. Guelph had gotten the advantage when Brantford's Kevin Fitzpatrick was sent off for holding. Yowart assisted on the tally. McFadden's next tally on the power play made the score 8-5 Guelph with 1:37 left in the third period. Sebastian Stangherlin picked up the assist.

The Hurricanes' offense rang up 51 shots on the 99ers' net. Guelph outdid its season average for goals scored. The Hurricanes have scored at the pace of 5.0 goals per game during the current campaign. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Guelph additionally got points from Lawrence Pagnan, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Craig Martini, who also registered one goal and two assists, and McFadden, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Matt Lippa also scored for Guelph. More assists for Guelph came via Chad Herron, who had one.

Brantford made Hurricanes' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. Bradley Van Schubert made 21 stops and Tibor Svitek made six.

The 99ers were helped by Nathan Bastian, who had two goals. Bastian scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 17:36 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Brantford had taken the advantage when Guelph's Caleb Champagne got sent off for holding. Guy Polillo assisted on the tally. Bastian's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 16:58 left in the second period. Polillo picked up the assist. Brantford also got points from Polillo, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points and Mitch Atkins, who also registered one goal and two assists. Brantford also got a goal from Cole Cummings as well. In addition, Brantford received assists from David Storey, Mitch Camacho, and Luc Hartholt, who contributed one a piece.

The Hurricanes incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The 99ers' Andre Keire stopped 43 shots out of the 50 that he faced. Brantford incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
