Sarnia rips St. Marys, 8-1

The St. Marys Lincolns had trouble finding ways to stop the Sarnia Legionnaires, which beat Lincolns, 8-1.

Josh Kestner had two goals to lead Sarnia to victory. Kestner's tallies came at 16:36 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Sarnia and 2:19 into the second to make the score 4-0 Sarnia.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:13 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Legionnaires forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game Sarnia had been spending in the box. St. Marys was unable to stop the Legionnaires from sending pucks towards the net, and Sarnia eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The Legionnaires' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Sarnia averages 4.5 goals per contest.

Sarnia also got points from Ryan Vendramin, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Sarnia included Hunter Tyczynski, who had three and Davis Boyer and Cody Trowell, who scored one goal each. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Nathan Mater, Brett Corrigan, Bobby King, Riley Roberts, cody slaght, and Thomas Moxley, who each chipped in one and Riley Babkirk and Tyler Prong, who contributed two a piece.

The Lincolns were led by Braydon Blight, who scored the team's only goal. Blight scored on the power play 15:21 into the third period to make the score 8-1 Sarnia. St. Marys had taken the advantage when the Legionnaires' Corrigan got sent off for slashing. Nathan Smith APM assisted on the tally.

Braden Palocz made 19 saves for Sarnia on 20 shots. The Legionnaires registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Team's Kestner and PJ Vandervaart were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Dylan Hoover recorded 34 saves for the Lincolns. St. Marys totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Lincolns, Luke Jackson and Alex Deluce were ejected from the contest.
