St. Catharines beats Thorold 8-6 as Rodgers gets hat trick

The Thorold Blackhawks could not stop the St. Catharines Falcons' Mark Rodgers, who tallied a hat trick in an 8-6 win.

Rodgers' first goal came 3:28 into the second period. He then added goals at 15:32 into the second and at 19:26 into the second.

St. Catharines found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Falcons average 4.0 goals per contest. St. Catharines struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Thorold to score three power play goals on five chances.

St. Catharines additionally got points from Greg Jambrosich, who also registered one goal and two assists, Yanni Rallis, who also had one goal and one assist, and Dilan Walker, who also tallied one goal and three assists. Tyler Jackson also scored for St. Catharines. Other players who recorded assists for St. Catharines were Ryan Doucette, Brandon Cercone, and Cam Blakely, who each chipped in one and Jimmy Sheehan and Kyle Woodhouse, who contributed two a piece.

The Blackhawks were led by Kyle Tanev, who had three goals and one assist. Thorold also got points from Drake Hart, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Joe Mitchell, who also registered one goal and one assist. Thorold also got a goal from Kevin Lavoie as well. In addition, Thorold received assists from Roger Sherwood, who had three and Matt Pizzo and Stephen Jablonski, who each chipped in one.

Jonathon D Ilario rejected 21 shots on goal for the Falcons. St. Catharines incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ian Shorthouse made 19 saves for Thorold on 26 shots. The Blackhawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
