Niemanen nets hat trick, leads Ancaster to 8-2 win over Buffalo

A hat trick by Zach Niemanen was the highlight in Avalanche's 8-2 win against the Buffalo Regals.

Niemanen got on the scoresheet 7:54 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:58 into the second and at 17:58 into the second.

The Ancaster Avalanche pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 32 penalty minutes.

Ancaster forced Buffalo goalie Justin Dichristopher to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. The Avalanche found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Ancaster averages 3.4 goals per contest.

Ancaster additionally got points from Christopher Klack, who also finished with two goals and three assists to lead the team in points. Dustin Chenier also scored for Ancaster. More assists for Ancaster came via Jake Bain, who had two and Max Balinson, Ryan Lewis, Hayden Guitard, Elijah Williams, Brett Farrelly, and Harrison Domagala, who each chipped in one.

The Regals kept the Avalanche's goalie busy throughout the game, and Blake Richard made 37 saves on 39 shots. Buffalo was held back by its power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances.

The Regals were led by Christopher Moses, who had one goal. Moses scored on the power play 13:06 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Ancaster. Buffalo earned a power play opportunity when Lewis was put in the box for interference. Matthew Shumate provided the assist. Buffalo also got a goal from Kennedy Monaco as well.

Ancaster registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Dichristopher recorded 27 saves for the Regals. Buffalo ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. For the Regals, Taggart Ledyard was ejected from the game.
