Shorthouse stymies Port Colborne, Thorold wins 5-1

Ian Shorthouse had a standout game with 33 saves, and the Thorold Blackhawks beat the Port Colborne Pirates 5-1.

Thorold pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 20 penalty minutes.

The Blackhawks were sparked by Kevin Lavoie, who registered one goal. Lavoie scored 7:32 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Thorold. Brendan Cullen provided the assist.

Thorold's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Port Colborne power plays. Port Colborne was unable to stop the Blackhawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Thorold eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Thorold additionally got points from Owen Sobchak, who also had one goal and one assist and Drake Hart, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Joe Mitchell also scored for Thorold. In addition, Thorold received assists from Kyle Tanev, who had two and Matt Pizzo, Tyler Kessler, and Zach McQuade, who each chipped in one.

The Pirates' offense rang up 34 shots on the Blackhawks' net.

Thorold registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Mitchell Knight made 32 saves for Port Colborne on 37 shots. The Pirates incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
